Artwork Inspired by Patient Care

Kelly Donovan, a Hospital Aide at our Bala Cynwyd outpatient location, channeled the passion she has for her career in physical rehabilitation and submitted original artwork to be featured in the 2018 Celebration of Art and Life art exhibit at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine. The annual art exhibit allows faculty, staff, students and patients to participate in a competition showcasing individual creative expression. The exhibition opens September 2018 and runs through September 2019.

Below, Kelly shares the inspiration behind her artwork submission:

"My manager (Jen Pomykacz) and I had collaborated together and discussed theme ideas that would pertain to the art exhibit's theme: A Celebration of Art & Life. The first thing that came to my mind when I thought about our outpatient clinic at Good Shepherd Penn Partners and therapy overall was goal setting. For both clinicians and patients, goals are created in order to attain victories.

No matter how small any form of improvement that a patient undergoes is a huge accomplishment from a therapist's perspective and in times where there may be difficult tasks it is those accomplishments that motivate the patient to continue on with their exercises. It gives them the state of mind where they too feel confident in themselves and do not let any limitations stop them from attaining their goals. Life itself is about striving for something we are either passionate about or are determined to accomplish. Attaining specific goals can take time, as well as take multiple steps before reaching them. It all starts with setting a goal, having the ambition to achieve it, the confidence and perseverance to follow through with it and in the end it can be attained."
