After Jamie Look, SLP, lost her Aunt Jane earlier this year to heart failure, she had a mission.
Jamie, who works at the Penn Institute for Rehab, became an active member in the Good Shepherd Penn Partners (GSPP) team for the American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk. Each year, GSPP joins forces with Penn Medicine to help raise and donate money to AHA.
Jamie and her entire family signed up for the walk, shared Aunt Jane’s story and posted links to donate on social media. Participating in the walk and seeking donations for a cause close to her and her family’s heart helped with their healing process. As an elementary school teacher, Aunt Jane spent her life teaching children and helping others. This was a great way for her family to keep her memory alive.
Little by little, donations in honor of Aunt Jane grew. The Look family set a lofty goal of $3,000, and by September, they exceeded it. By the day of the walk, Jamie’s family raised more than $6,000.
Through their spirit and determination, the Look family was the top AHA donor among the entire Good Shepherd Penn Partners team and helped GSPP exceed its overall donation goal.
“I was so surprised to see how much was donated,” says Jamie. “It was amazing to see the generosity of others.”
