An illness or injury that immobilizes is a life-changing event. Our Spinal Cord Injury Program recognizes that the road to recovery is long and difficult. We will partner with you to develop a rehabilitation program that addresses your specific needs, continuing the compassionate, quality care of the Penn Medicine network.
The Spinal Cord Injury Inpatient Program is a fully accredited Spinal Cord System of Care Program by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
Who can benefit from our program?
Spinal Cord Injury patients experience a number of conditions but often require daily medical supervision and need combined physical, occupational or speech therapies.
Our Spinal Cord Injury Program focuses on comprehensive medical, nursing and therapy care to help patients with spinal cord injuries or central nervous system disorders including:
- Neuromuscular or central nervous system disorders
- Spinal cord injury or a disease process of the spinal cord
- Dual diagnosis of brain injury and spinal cord
- Transitioning from ventilator
What to expect
Penn Rehab’s program is designed to restore you to your highest physical, social and emotional potential. Our patients receive care from a team of spinal cord injury specialists, including physical, occupational and speech therapists, rehabilitation nurses, and a physiatrist specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
As with our other programs, pain from neurological or spinal cord conditions can be disruptive to recovery. Pain may come and go throughout the body, and be difficult to treat. We tailor your pain management plan to maximize comfort and progress in our program, to enable you to take the next step on your recovery journey
