An illness or injury that immobilizes is a life-changing event. Our Spinal Cord Injury Program at Penn Therapy & Fitness recognizes that the road to recovery can be long and difficult.

Penn Therapy & Fitness therapists can provide rehabilitation services to manage conditions related to spinal cord injuries including (but not limited to):

  • Neuromuscular or central nervous system disorders
  • Spinal cord injury or a disease process of the spinal cord
  • Dual diagnosis of brain injury and spinal cord injury/disorder
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Multiple sclerosis

Designed by physicians specializing in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, our Spinal Cord Injury program treats patients who experience a number of conditions but often need combined physical, occupational or speech therapies. Penn Therapy & Fitness therapists collaborate with patients and their care team to effectively manage symptoms and maximize independence.

Your Penn Therapy & Fitness therapist will work with you to develop a rehabilitation plan that’s right for you, including:

  • Bowel and bladder management
  • Communication, cognitive and safety training
  • Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) management
  • FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) for dysphagia patients
  • Nutritional support
  • Pain management
  • Sports training/recreational activity assessment 
  • Seating and mobility clinic and skills training
